Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Monday, Dec. 9, the whole fifth grade came together and learned about discrimination. First, we went into a circle, and then, Mrs. Huiet told the people who are born in January through June form a circle, and then they would get extra recess. We all shared our thoughts and feelings about what we did, if we were included or excluded. We also posted it on a padlet wall. Then, we watched a few videos about apartheid and Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King, Jr. We listened to the famous, “I Have A Dream” speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. Both of those men helped to change the world and make it a better place by standing up for their beliefs and made sure everyone had equal rights. What I learned was that everyone deserves the same things and needs for their life.
