6TH GRADE POSTS COMING!!!
THE BREAD WINNER is a book we just finished for Read Aloud. This book takes place 20 years ago in Afghanistan. The main character is called Parvana, who has four siblings, one had died, his name was Hossain. At that period of time, the Taliban soldiers had took over Afghanistan.
The Taliban’s have strict rules, very strict rules. Women and little right they are not allowed to leave their homes without a male escort or covering their own faces. Girls are not being educated and only boys go to school. Parvana was just an ordinary 11 years old girl, living in Afghanistan. Then, Taliban’s invaded her house and took her father away. Parvana now had to feed the family, in many different ways. Some are norMl, some are not…
The main characters is the books are: Parvana, Noria, Marium, Mother, Father, Ms.Weera, Shazia and the mysterious window women. You will find out who they are AFTER YOU READ THE BOOK!
I personally think this book gives a message about hope and kindness, reminding us constantly, how we should think and act. If you want to read this book and find out more, go to Amazon and buy the book! IT IS GREAT!
P.S: The Breadwinner means the person who earns money and give food and shelter to their family, after you have read this book, comment below and tell me who you think is the bread winner!
Have you heard the news that there had been an earthquake in Nepal. Our school has had a walkathon earlier today, each person has to give at least 10 RMB to the donation bottle (whatever you call it). So this is how it works, our school send the money to a trustworthy company, and that company will send it to another different company, and THAT company will send the money to another different company, that will repeat a few more time until it reaches Nepal. I honestly don’t know why we had to walk, and not just donate. I chatted with my BFF Alyssa, and we walked, and walked, and walked for one hour. I was relieved when I walked into the air conditioned room. Anyways, I think it was very generous enough for our school to do such a thing for Nepal! I hope that Nepal will thrive once again.
Cheer for Nepal!
Yesterday we had no school! YEPPEEEEEEEEEEE! That is why we had Student Led Conference. We share our learning during the year and think about our growth and what we still need to improve on. We focused on the ESLRs: Expected Student’s Learning Results, which includes, Complex Thinker, Independent Learner, Collaborator, Communicator, Global Citizens. We also focused on our different subjects such as Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science. We also reflected on how we did in Art, Music and P.E. We made a keynote to show our work which we revised and added things. I think I did quite well because I expressed myself clearly to me AWSOME teacher, Mrs.Huiet and my mom! I think all my classmates are doing well, (shhh, maybe not some of the boys) but I’m still happy with myself!
Graffiti is also know as street art, it is made by spray paint. In class, we are doing graffiti/street art of our selves! This is my reflection on this art project:
What are the steps to make this spray paint?
1. We took a black and white comic photo of our selves and printed it out.
2. We used a exacto knife to cut our the black part of our face. This is the creation of the stencil.
3. Now it’s time to create the background. We chose our favorite colors and patterns to spray on a canvas board with spray paint.
4. This is the last step! We put our face stencil on the canvas board and sprayed it with a dark color to finish!
Which colors did you use? Why did you choose these colors?
I chose neon yellow and neon orange because these are bright colors! And I think being bright and happy is a good thing! The message I want to send out is that everyone deserves to be bright and happy!
What would you like to change?
I would like to be more careful about my art because I accidentally smeared some spray paint on my eyes, which makes me look like I over eyeshadowed! But I still think it’s pretty cool that way!
What did you like about the project?
I like how we can really experience using spray paint and making our own stencils so we can make our own spray paint afterwards because we already learned how.
Here is a photo of my project:
Leave a comment and have a epic day!
Have you ever had a pan pal from a different school before? Well, this year in Chinese class, we had pen pals from Hai Wan Primary School. I’m looking forward to knowing more about my pen pal called CiCi. She is a girl from 6th grade who’s favorite subject is English. No wonder the good grammar skills. We are going to write 4 letters in English and 4 letters in Chinese to communicate and become friends with our pen pals! I’ve already received my first English written letter from CiCi, and I am looking forward to write back! Thanks CiCi!
Our 5th grade students has just performed the music concert! We performed songs that had poems for lyrics, like Answer To A Child’s Question, Silver The River, Time secrete and also songs made my our fellow 5th graders. This is my reflection on how I think I did during performance:
What was it like for you, personally, to prepare for this concert?
I was a little bit nervous but mostly I’m really excited. I tried my best when I prepared for this concert because this is my last year in elementary school and also the last choir performance for Mrs.Overlie, so I want it to be the best she ever had.
Was it easy?
I was pretty confident, so I thought it was easy. I memorized all the lyrics and pitches, so I thought it was pretty good and enjoyable.
Was it hard?
It wasn’t hard for me because I really enjoyed the songs.
Did you have to practice a lot at home, or was it possible to learn everything in class?
It will be possible to learn everything in class, but practicing at home give me more confidence so I can perform better on stage.
Did you feel any specific emotions while preparing because of the level of difficulty or because of the lyrics?
I was feeling happy, because I enjoyed the songs a lot!
What do you feel is the most important thing you learned from this process?
I learned to pay attention while in class and also putting your effort and emotions into your singing.
Which song was your favorite to perform, and why?
My favorite song was The Climb, because I love the rhymes, lyrics and the harmonies it created while we are singing, and I can put all emotions into this song.
What were some emotions you felt while performing? Was there a certain song that made you feel more emotions than another? Which song, which emotions?
My emotions are excited and enjoying ( don’t know why they all start with E and my name starts with E). Yes, The Climb, just like I mentioned above. And the emotion for this song is free and happy. I also hope the lyrics in this song could help and encourage others.
Was there a song you did not enjoy at first, but ended up being one of your favorites? If so, why did you not enjoy it at first, and why do you think it became your favorite?
Nope, I always had one favorite, which is the climb. My least favorite song is Silver The River because it is not that exciting. But now I’m okay with it.
If you could give next year’s fourth and fifth graders advice on preparing for the concert, what would you tell them?
I would tell them to PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND PRACTICE! It has such a big improvement and will help you in class. So you can become a leader while singing.
Were you able to make the connections to your classroom (and music classroom) curriculum with the songs you learned, or was it difficult for you to connect them together?
I could connect it easily because when we started learning these songs that had lyrics that were poems, we were learning and making our own poems in our classrooms!
Think about the words for The Climb and Follow Your Dreams, and think about a goal or dream that you have. If the journey toward your goal or dream is the most important part, what are some things you are doing now that are preparing you for your dream/goal? How are they important?
Hmmm, Well I would really want to be a news reporter one day. So know I looked at the news a lot and sign up for journalist and reporting classes in summer camps.
Think about Best Day of My Life. What do you do each day to make it the best day? Is there something more you could do?
I will do everything I luv! And also include a lot of laughter, friends and Food!
What are some things you think you (or the group) did well at the concert?
I think our group performed really well because they memorized there lyrics and pitches.
What are some areas for growth for you or the group?
I think my group could add more emotions and smiles while performing!
Here is a video for you to watch!
Please leave a comment and have a nice day!
Have u ever heard of the book named Mrs.Frisby And The Rats Of NIHM? It is a touching story and I would want to share a summary with u about this book, please enjoy:)
Mrs.Frisby is a field mice who lives with her four children, her husband Mr.Frisby died. Boo-hoo! Her son Timothy got really ill, so she went to visit Mr.Ages who know all about natural medicine. Mrs.Frisby met the crow who is attracted to shinny objects and they became friends. The great fear of Mrs.Frisby is moving day. The farmer start plowing the field and no animal will survive, but Timothy might not be able to get up for moving day. The crow advice her to visit the owl, who was wise and has a lot of great ideas. As we all know, Owls eat mice, but Mrs.Frisby went for advice. To her suprise, the owl told her to find the rat Justin. Mrs.Frisby visited the rats secrete domain in the bushes, the guard rats took little notice of her, but she had to find Justin. Mrs.Frisby met Mr.Ages with an injured leg wrapped up in white cloth hurrying to a meeting. Mrs .Frisby told Mr.Ages what happened and why she was in the rats hole, while Mrs.Frisby wondering the same for Mr.Ages. Mr.Ages helped Mrs.Frisby to find Justin. Justin was one of Mr.Ages friend, same as the owl, heard he was Mr.Frisby’s wife, was polite and honored to help. What did Mr.Frisby do? It was pretty cool that there were lightbulb underground and something like air conditioner, the rats must be pretty smart or maybe they have someone really smart to help them. Mrs.Frisby entered a library, her kids was fast at reading, but she had trouble with letter, maybe she’s just older. But it was like a conference room, on the board read: THE PLAN OF THE RATS OF NIMH. A young girl rat walked in holding papers, she saw Mrs.Frisby and asked if she was a spy from NIHM, Mrs.Frisby said no. The rat was called Isabella, and she was apparently in live with Justin. Nicodemus the rat cam out to help Mrs.Frisby and took out a map and told her to go to a sheltered place, and the rats got the key. The rats are going to put sleep powder in the cats food so they can work more efficiently. The only problem is Mr.Ages who places the powder has a bad leg, so he couldn’t move fast enough, then who would do it, and will they succeed? Mrs.Frisby found out that Mr.Frisby died placing the powder and got eaten by the cat. Mrs.Frisby still decided that she would put the sleeping powder, she’s going to risk her life for Timothy’s. Nicodemus told Mrs.Frisby about the story of the rats of NIMH. The rats and mice learned to read and write using the human machines to help them. They also learned the technology skills when they were trapped and trained by humans. Nicodemus met Mr.Frisby in the Science lab while helping them escape. Nicodemus saved Mr.ages’ life when Mr.Ages’ was being blown into the tunnels. But the other mouse was nowhere to be seen. Mr.Frisby, Mr.Ages and Nicodemus escaped, now free! They learned a lot and know about reading, mathematics, electricity, science ect. They wanted to live underground and be next to a farm so they decided to live here. He told the story of how they found where they lived and how they met the wise owl. Now their plan was to move to Thorne Valley, a beautiful place between two mountains.
The story was really interesting but the looming of moving day has come end, this evening, Mrs.Frisby would take the risk of putting the sleeping powder into Dragon&’s bowl. What will happen to Mrs.Frisby?!?!?!?!? *creeped out* When Mrs.Frisby went into the kitchen she was caught by the little boy called Billy, she heard from the humans that some Doctor is coming, ahhhh! The doctor in the lab! Doctor Shalt’s! Mrs.Frisby had to find a way to escape, she has to go warn Nicodemus and the other rats!!!!!!! Mrs.Frisby was kept in a bird cage up high, she kept trying to open the door, using all the strength she had. But that didn’t work, she had to think of a way to free herself. Then a rat scurried out, it was Justin! Help came at just the right time! Justin helped Mrs.Frisby escape from the cage. Mrs.Frisby quickly warned Justin about the doctors and they came back to there house. The kids were all packed and ready and Mrs.Frisby’s neighbor had to be convinced that the rats were trustworthy before she said yes.
They hooked strings onto Mrs.Frisby’s house and five strong rat pulled the string as her house slowly rose into the air. And her house finally returned to a safe place! Now they won’t have to worry no more… But… Wait! The rats! I have to help them from the doctor of NIHM! Mrs.Frisby joined Nicodemus’s meeting in the big assembly room. Every rat was here, even the rat Isabella Mrs.Frisby met before. The rats came up with a great idea, they have to act like they are not smart or trained, then the doctors might switch target. It they could escape to their safe hideout, but there has to be guards in the hole, if no rats were in the hole, the humans would get suspicious. When the human pump gas into the bush they will escape from the back exist, and scramble out to make noise and show themselves to the humans, then dash off again into the woods.
The human had come to open the rose bush, but the rats had done there job well, the human couldn’t find any rats.
