  1. ISA Testing October 8th and 9th

    September 27, 2013 by ahomi1

International Schools’ Assessment  on the mornings of Tuesday and Wednesday, October 8th and 9th.

In order for your child to do his/her best during the assessment, please help your child get enough rest, have a healthy breakfast, and bring a healthy snack along with his/her water bottle on both days.   This can be a long morning of testing for the students and we do have a specific time schedule to follow, so making sure your child is to school on time will help support them best.

    Thank you for your support!

  2. Writing From Our Hearts

    September 26, 2013 by ahomi1

Where do writers get their ideas? A great resource is from personal experiences. Today our writers used their memories to help spark ideas. After listening to a read aloud, Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco, students reflected on a personal experience that was linked to a specific feeling or emotion of fear, nervousness or uncertainty. The result was awesome! A collection of in-depth narratives with specific details emerged to retell the personal and true stories about small moments in our lives. Writers truly zoomed in and wrote from their heart!

  3. The Pendulum Experiment

    September 25, 2013 by ahomi1

Today in science, we explored the changing of variables in our swingers experiment. We made 17 new swingers of different lengths to find out if the length affects the number of swings in 15 seconds-and it did! We found out that the longer the pendulum, the fewer the swings and the shorter the pendulum the greater the swings. We extracted the data and created two different types of pictorial graphs. We also found out that mass and release position do not affect the number of swings of a pendulum, only length does.

    September 24, 2013 by ahomi1

This afternoon, the students began the process of blogging by getting the “skeleton” or framework of their individual edublog account. They are all very excited about the possibilities of sharing their thinking, wonderings, passions, and reflections. Over the next few months, the students’ creativity will shine. I will link all of their blogs to my blog in order to make accessing the sites easier.

  7. Readers’ Workshop: Using a Rating Scale for Genres

    September 2, 2013 by ahomi1

This morning we introduced and reviewed several different genres that we have come across while reading. We utilized a rating scale of 1-10 to rate our opinions of each genre and how often we read them which enabled us to get a closer look at our reading preferences and how we choose books. Tomorrow we are going to take a closer look at our data and see what we can find out about the readers in 5B!
