  3. Visiting Poets

    February 27, 2014 by ahomi1

Last Thursday, 5B was thrilled to welcome visiting poet Michael Salinger into our classroom. Michael worked with us on definition poems in which we created our own poems about topics related to our current social studies unit “Movers and Shakers”. Topics such as “discrimination”, “prejudice”, and “humanitarian” were among the few.

  6. What is Government?

    February 12, 2014 by ahomi1

    What is Government?

This week in our social studies unit “Movers and Shakers”, grade 5 students have been exploring the many aspects of government. Students, in groups, have been researching and focusing on becoming experts in a specific government style. Defining the types of government in their own words, identifying three positive aspects and three negative aspects of the government style, identifying real-world countries that use the type of government and famous leaders and rulers associated with the governments have been the key focal points in our research. We will use our knowledge to help us in writing our biographies of movers and shakers in history by discussing both the social and political environment in which they were a part of.

  8. Toy Inventors in Grade 2

    January 17, 2014 by ahomi1

This week 5B had another important job: to evaluate their Grade 2 reading buddies’ toy inventions! Using a rubric, they reviewed the design and creation process with their second grade friend by asking questions about their understanding and the quality of the product. Can the second grader explain balance and motion? How effective is their design? In sharing knowledge and gaining insight into their partners design, 5B played a mentoring and leading role and they discovered 2D knows how to design, create, and reflect!
