Reading: Character Development through Fairytales
Fairytales lend themselves well to studying the character traits and development throughout the stories.
We identified common elements in fairytales and read traditional fairytales. Now we will change one element in a traditional story and add in all the cascading changes from the one change. Students will write their own adapted fairytale with a connection to reading they will focus on developing their characters through actions, thoughts, and dialogue. Students will publish their adapted fairytales on Book Creator.
Math: Module 5
Module 5 starts with students actively partitioning different models of wholes into equal parts (e.g., concrete models, fraction strips, and drawn pictorial area models on paper). They identify and count equal parts as 1 half, 1 fourth, 1 third, 1 sixth, and 1 eighth in unit form before an introduction to the unit fraction 1/b (3.NF.1). Please see the attached newsletter for concepts and vocabulary that you can use to support your children at home.
Unit of Inquiry: Organisms Adapt to Their Environment to Sustain Life
This week we will inquire about how life cycles are diverse. Students will research the life cycle of different animals and plants. After students will create diagrams and models of life cycles of the animal or plant they chose. Then they will compare and contrast their diagram with others to learn about similarities and differences. We will do a hands on activity and explore different fruit and vegetable seeds to predict how they develop.
