Thank you so much to our Parent Support Association.

Your enthusiasm, care and effort is appreciated.

Thank you promoting the love of story and strengthening our community.

Below are only some of the amazing moments that were experienced at Books Come Alive on March 16! The article about Book Week that was written for the SIS weekly is also found posted at this site.

Jingshan was a hive of activity last week as the whole primary school celebrated Book Week.

Book Week is an annual celebration of children’s books and reading. During the week a variety of experiences took place in different classrooms, as well as some being held school-wide. Students wore pajama’s so they could cozy up with a book, had mystery readers, read in unusual places, went for story strolls, were inspired by decorated classroom doors,  participated in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read), created story ropes, were inspired to share ideas after reading “What do You Do with an Idea?” and acted out a story using shadow puppets.

On Friday children dressed up as a book character and had an exciting K-5 assembly. The entire primary school then participated in amazing Book Week activity stations called Books Come Alive. The stations were created and run by PSA volunteers. ECC children explored ‘The magical world of Eric Carle’, and Kindergarten and Grade 1 participated in ‘Circus McGurkus’. Grade 2 and 3 enjoyed stations based on Squish, Babymouse and Charlotte’s web. Grade 4 and 5 students took part in book based breakout games. The Books Come Alive experiences were memorable and reflect our caring and enthusiastic community.

Thank you to our dedicated librarians, Mrs Livingston and Mrs Valenzuela, for supporting and overseeing the plethora of activities and events that happened during Book Week. Thank you to our teachers for inspiring children to read and for participating so enthusiastically in all the activities.  You have all been instrumental in building a community of book lovers and lifelong readers!

Thank you to all our PSA volunteers for so actively and generously supporting our Book Week!   The students and faculty greatly appreciate the time, talent and hard work that went into the Books Come Alive stations.  A strong partnership with parents – in the classroom and beyond – creates wonderful learning opportunities for our SIS students!

We wish you all a happy and safe Spring Break and we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday, 2 April.
