About SIS Elementary Library @Mountainside
Welcome! Our library is a place where students can read, do homework, conduct research, learn through exploration of resources and check out books. We love to see students, teachers and parents sharing our library space and resources.
We also exist in the virtual world and provide on-line resources for the SIS community.

Welcome to the Elementary Library. The SIS elementary Library at Mountainside (Jing shan) serves the Early Childhood Center and Elementary School. The Library has a comprehensive and ever-growing collection of books, reference materials, periodicals and online resources. Our library uses Follett’s Destiny program which can be accessed from school or home though the school’s website. The libraries are open for independent student use before and after school, and, of course, during the regular school day. Considered a community resource, we are also open to parents throughout the day. Early and Upper Primary visit the Library on both a fixed and flexible schedule. The librarian also collaborates with the k-5 teachers to support students in their learning across the curriculum.
The goals of our library program include: instilling a love of reading, supporting the curriculum, and fostering information literacy skills for all of our students.
The SIS Libraries sponsor or support a number of special events during the school year including author visits and Book Week celebrations. For more information about the SIS Libraries please contact:

About Mrs. Livingston
Dear SIS community members,
My name is Gaylene Livingston and I am happy to be serving the SIS community as a teacher-librarian at the Parkside / Mountainside campus. I earned a B.Ed at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and an M.Ed from Framingham State University, USA. Aside from my university experiences I have had many professional development opportunities to help me continue in my journey as an educator. And, more importantly, I have had extremely rich experiences teaching children for over 24 years as a classroom teacher and teacher-librarian. Teaching has been an evolving, engaging and challenging profession that has helped make my life enjoyable and full.
This will be my eleventh year in China and 26th year living away from Canada! My husband is also an educator. He works at Bayside in the role of principal. And, we have a daughter who is in 12th grade at SIS. Yes, our entire family goes to school every day!
Prior to living in Shenzhen, I worked in the following places: International School of Uganda (Kampala), International School Manila – Philippines, American Cooperative School – La Paz, Bolivia, Rabat American School, Morocco and American International School Guangzhou, PRC. We have beautiful memories from each of these wonderful, international communities.
I look forward to serving SIS this school year.
See you in the library and classrooms at SIS! And, please contact me if you would like to volunteer at our Mountainside Library.
