Welcome to Grade 2
Dear parents of 2A,
Welcome back to SIS! I hope you had a relaxing summer; I myself spent a week riding horses in Inner Mongolia, 2 weeks trekking near Tiger Leaping Gorge, and a month back in Colorado. To new families, I hope your transition has been smooth and welcome to the SIS family.
My name is Jonathan Nock and I, along my teaching assistant Ms. Cindy, will be accompanying your 2nd graders on their learning journey through grade 2. We are both very excited to be teaching your children this year and look forward to getting to know you and your families.
This year will be my 8th year of teaching grade 2. I finished my teaching degree at a small school in South-West Colorado which is famous for its outdoor sports. Before graduating, I was lucky enough to finish my practicum teaching at the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore where I had previously worked as a sea kayaking guide for their 7th grade Outdoor Education Program. Since then, I have worked for PYP (Primary Years Programme) schools in both Mongolia and Romania.
Outside of work, I enjoy several hobbies. I am an avid outdoorsman, having obtained my first university degree in college was in Outdoor Recreational Leadership. This has translated into a lot of time spent climbing, fly fishing, and being outside with friends. I also enjoy Chinese tea ceremony, taking photos on film cameras, bow hunting, water color painting, cooking, football (not the American version!), pottery, and several other hobbies. My experience outside of the classroom is often what makes the learning experiences in my classroom come to life!
