Hailing originally from the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, I am an adventurer at heart. As a lifelong learner, I possess an insatiable curiosity for acquiring new understandings about the world around me. I believe that authentic learning is intrinsic and inspired by our passions and prior experiences. As such, I respect each child as an individual and seek to nurture a growth mindset about education. While each student progresses toward similar goals through explicit learning standards and objectives, the journey we take to get there may differ greatly. It is my intention to use well-researched
best teaching practices in guiding your child to make growth along their own personal pathway.
This is my nineteenth year as an educator and my eleventh year teaching overseas. Fourteen years of PYP inquiry-based teaching, and six years experience in teaching students with special learning needs have taken me from New York to China, to Zurich, Singapore, and now back to China! I possess a master’s degree in Technology and Curriculum Integration from Michigan State University. As a result of these experiences, when you walk into my classroom you will find a rigorous and active technology-rich environment where students are enthusiastic about the learning process. Students in my classroom continuously peer and self-reflect about what they do well, what areas of learning they wish to target for improvement, and what steps are required to meet their personal goals. Students practice resiliency and problem solving when they find their own methods to represent new understandings under a given set of criterion.
I am sincerely looking forward to making the acquaintance of each of you! I have three children; Keaton (Pre-K1), Rowan (K) and Juniper (G2). My husband, Ted Wallace, works in the middle and high school at SIS as a Humanities and Business Management teacher. We are a vibrant and active international family, and I know we will find a good fit here at SIS.
