Throughout the day, students will be coming down to the lobby and Gecko Theater area to do some “book shopping” and to create a wish list. Tomorrow, during parent-teacher conferences, parents will have their child’s wish list so that they can purchase the books. Some great reading will be taking place during the Mid-Autumn festival next week! Thank you #SISrocks PSA!
We are fortunate to have such great facilities in the Primary at SIS. Here are some pictures of Mr. Elliott’s class enjoying the beautiful day and working on efficient techniques with arms!
Have a look at some of the learning taking place in our classrooms – engagement, creativity, focus, and collaboration!
Classes throughout the elementary school have begun setting up reading buddies with other classes. Here is a picture of Mr. Damroth’s grade 5 class visiting Ms. Cheung’s grade 2 class in order to build community and a love of reading. These types of interactions will continue throughout the school at all levels. We love to read!
The Learning Innovation Team joined together with the ES Counselor to deliver a great presentation to parents on “Parenting in the Digital Age.” This is an important topic in education today and SIS is committed to sharing best practice and research with parents.
Read-alouds are a wonderful opportunity to support students in their overall language development. When teachers read to students they focus on expression, intonation, and pacing. Teachers are able to have students share and work together on summarizing, predicting, and inquiring. Involving students in read-alouds is one of the most important parts of the school day.
Mr. Bywater, our school counselor, supports all students in our elementary school. He meets with all K-5 classes throughout the school year during “guidance time” to discuss topics such as personal safety, conflict resolution, and problem solving. He also works with students on understanding and managing emotions.
