A New Year in Art

Welcome back! I hope you are as excited as I am to begin another school year. This year we will be focusing on increased collaboration with the homeroom teachers and making sure every student has a place to express themselves in their unique creative voice. Please follow our classroom instagram and/or twitter if you are able to catch more photos of what the students are doing at: https://www.instagram.com/khobbssisesart/?hl=en and https://twitter.com/katievhobbs. Please remember this year to dress for art. There are procedures in place to minimize mess but still accidents will happen so it is best students wear clothes and shoes that you won’t mind them getting messy. We will also be continuing the tradition of our end of the year art show where each student k-5 will have at least one piece exhibited.

Welcome Back!

Dear Parents and Students,

This year we will be covering many exciting techniques and processes in art. Each grade level will cover the following 5 major disciplines of visual arts: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and fiber arts. Each grade will cover a variety of techniques along with learning a wide range of classic and modern artists and their pertinent eras of art history. Students will also be looking at the elements of art and principals of design, focusing on composition and craftsmanship in their pieces. In May we will have an end of the year art show to celebrate and exhibit the amazing work the students produced throughout the year.

As many of you may know, my husband and I are expecting our first child sometime in the next few weeks and will be in maternity leave at the beginning of the fall semester. During this time Camille Lill will be in the art room as my substitute. Camille has been a kindergarten teacher with SIS for 3 years and holds a BA degree in Fine Arts from Western Washington University. She has a firm grip on the curriculum and is excited to see some familiar faces as well as getting to know some new ones in the art room this year.

I will return sometime in September and look forward to seeing you all then!
