This week has been a lot more work on the SIS Exhibition. Each group will be doing a formal presentation either at Level 5 or in the Gecko Theater for each session. When they aren’t presenting, they will be at their booths in and around the Grade 5 classrooms to interact with those attending. There are 3 sessions. Each session will be exactly the same, so you can choose which time works best for you. We will be sending home the exact times when each group will be presenting next week. This is our first year doing Exhibition, and we are excited for the students to share what they have researched about their group and what action they took.

In math, we’ve been solving word problems using volume. We’ve also been figuring out the area of mystery rectangles using tiling and multiplication, as well as solving word problems using area. The biggest thing when solving word problems is to SLOW DOWN and understand the story first. Drawing a picture second helps to understand the problem even more. Finally, the equations come, but only after the story is understood.
