ISA Tests

ISA (International Schools’ Assessment) testing is coming up right after the break.

The test will be given on Tuesday, October 8th and Wednesday, October 9th.

You can help your child prepare for these tests by ensuring that they get a good night’s sleep, eat a good breakfast, and get to school on time.

Thank you for your support!

IMovie Projects

As a reflection of what they learned during our field trip to the Shenzhen Museum, grade 3 students made an iMovie explaining what they noticed has changed in Shenzhen during the past 30+ years.

Some of the pictures they saw from Shekou, Futian or Luohu helped them to understand how and why resources affect where people live. They also used those pictures to make their iMovie.

Researching for “My Country Project”

Last Thursday, 3A students, went to the library and learned how to get information from an online encyclopaedia. They started researching for their  social studies project, “My Country Project,” using the online Britannica Encyclopaedia.

If you are interested in reading some interesting articles, learn cool facts, or just find some information about about your home country, click on the  following link: Britannica

Good Readers Talk About Books

During our Reading Workshop we practiced talking about the book we were reading.

3A readers learned from each other by sharing their ideas and their thinking. They worked in pairs, turning and talking to their partner, and responding to their partner’s ideas instead of just telling their own.

You can use the anchor chart below to practice talking about a book with your child.

STUCO Class Rep

Friday was an exciting day for 3A students, the day to elect the Student Council Class Representative!

After listening to four fabulous speeches, the students voted for a classmate that they thought had the qualities of a good leader.

And the 3A Class Representative for the 2013-2014 school year is…

…Flynn Hamilton…

Congratulations Flynn!

Launching the Reader’s Workshop

Last Tuesday we launched our Reader’s Workshop. During the past days, 3A readers have sketched and talked about one of their favourite reading memories, learned appropriate behaviours for partner discussions by chatting about their favourite book, and  previewed a book for appropriate level, interest and text features.

They have also learned how the class library is organized, what to do with misplaced books and when and how often to choose books.

In addition,we have  discussed  class goals for Reading in the Workshop, and students have set their own personal goals.

And they have, of course, read, read, and read.
