Grade Three Parent Information
Your child is welcome to eat up to two healthy snacks a day. We have a snack recess at 9:15 in the morning and students are also welcome to eat a little snack during math in the afternoon to help keep up their energy and stay focused. Some examples of healthy, non-messy snacks are: granola bars, sliced apples, grapes, and so on. Please do not send your child with a sugary or a messy snack as they will be asked to put it away.
Please check our classroom blog for helpful information. Our blogs include calendars, math videos, weekly pictures from the classroom, helpful parent and student apps/sites, and much more.
Learners will be demonstrating their use of technology by posting entries on their own pages during the school year. We want you to stop by frequently and leave comments on these pages. Each time you compliment a child, it motivates that child to write even more.
The best way to contact your child’s teacher is through email. Please do not call the classroom phone number unless it is before or after school.
Absences & Transportation
If your child is going to be absent, please send me an email, along with Keren at the front desk (email@example.com). Also, if your child will be going home a different way than usual, please notify me. If they normally ride the bus, please also notify Anna Xu (firstname.lastname@example.org) so she can notify the bus driver and Ayi that your child will not be riding that day.
Birthday celebrations are an important time for children. Please contact your child’s teacher in advance to schedule a day to come in to celebrate. All celebrations will be from 2:40-2:55. Please do not bring something that the teacher has to prepare or cut up. Please also remember to provide all necessary utensils and supplies, including a lighter for candles, if desired.
Your child’s homework will come home everyday in a blue homework folder. Please help your child clean out their folder every night, support them in their homework if needed, and remind them to return their completed homework and planner to school every day.
Your child will have homework Monday – Thursday evenings. We will not send homework on the weekends unless it is a special project. Homework should last no longer than 30 minutes a night plus the daily reading requirement of 20 minutes. If your child is taking longer than this allotted time to complete their homework, please contact your child’s teacher to help problem solve this issue.
Your child will have recess twice a day. Please be sure to put their sunblock on in the morning on sunny days and spray them with bug spray before school if they are particularly susceptible to bug bites.
Please provide an umbrella labeled with your child’s name to keep at school on their hook. We do have grade 3 umbrellas for the students to share if needed.
