What are Your Fears?
This video focuses on the theme of Fear, one of our primal emotions. Everyone fears something in life, and since it is self destructing it often restricts us from pursuing our dreams. As my classmates and I quickly approach an important transition in our lives (high school to college) I thought it was fitting to address something we are all experiencing. My mission through this video is not to find the surface level fears such as that of spiders or roller coasters, but to find the deeper and more profound fears that lie within all of us. I hoped that by verbalizing our fears together, we can all come to the realization that we are not alone in this journey. That we all may possess the potential power we need to overcome these fears and accomplish our dreams. I chose to keep the features of the video such as the background and the camera angle very simple in order to not distract from the message. The soft instrumental piece of music is a folk song called Down to the River to Pray. I thought this was a fitting song as it focuses on seeking peace and comfort, something that many people hope for while facing their fears.
After I finished filming the majority of the Senior Class of 2014 and reviewing the interviews I collected a wave of satisfaction rushed over me! Multiple trends had presented themselves, and I was proud because this supported one of the central ideas of my video (we are not completely alone when it comes to being fearful of something). Trends such as fearing failure, loneliness, losing ourselves, losing loved ones, and many others. I am happy by the fact that my classmates and even other students all around the world can watch this video and find comfort in the fact that others have the same exact fears as them.
Here is the video, which lists 20 Strange Phobias people all around the World have, that served as my initial inspiration:
