Where we always try our very best!

Illustrators, Innovators and Inquirers!

on March 22, 2019

Much of our reading time was spent during Book Week Celebrations. We enjoyed reading books in our classroom as well as during our recess time! We spent two workshop sessions with Eric Rohmann. It was very interesting to learn the creative process he uses to illustrate picture books. We are very lucky to have such a famous and celebrated author visit our school. He even signed our SIS Library Copy of Strongheart during our one-on-one session! A huge thanks to Mrs. Livingston for arranging his visit!

As writers this week we continued to move through the writing process within our Literary Nonfiction books.  Our writing community is using so much creativity within this unit to both teach and entertain their reader!  We can’t wait to share these with you once back from Spring break!

Math Workshop

Mathematicians began to understand the concept of greater than and less than when comparing fractions. As we studied and compared different fractions, we continued to reason about their size. We developed the understanding that the numerator or number of copies (parts) of the fractional unit does not necessarily determine the size of the fraction.

Unit of Inquiry

This afternoon we will show off our incredible and diverse array of projects through a “Gallery Walk” with our peers. First, we will choose to display our best persuasive and literary non-fiction writing, posters, green screen videos and digital books. Then, we will walk through all of the third grade classes, leaving kind comments and wonderings for our peers.
