Dear Parents,

Welcome to my blog site!

My name is 张如枚 (Mavis Zhang) and I am one of the ES ChineseLanguage & Culture teachers at SIS Elementary School division. This year I teach Kindergarten & G1 language A class and ,G3,G4 & G5 Heritage classes. I am really happy to be your child’s Chinese teacher this school year!

During the past 26 years at Shekou, Shenzhen,  I have taught Chinese to different ages from Preschool, Elementary, Middle and High School students to adults. I graduated from Hunan Education College, majoring in English and got my bachelor degree in Chinese Linguistics from Bejing University.  I have also earned a certificate of Accreditation in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from the International Society of Chinese Language Pedagogy. I am from Yueyang City in Hunan province. There are lots of beautiful fresh water lakes in my hometown, and I love the Chinese saying which is, “Virtue is as vital as water. 上善若水.”

In my spare time, I love reading, travelling and making friends the most. I am delighted to teach your child Chinese this year. My goal is to create a fun learning atmosphere for your child to learn Chinese through listening, speaking, reading and writing. Your child’s learning will be focused on communication, making connection to real life, doing comparison and using the language in the community in order to reinforce and improve his/her Chinese language and cultural learning.

For my Kindergarten & G1 language A classes, please check the below information in Chinese:

In my heritage classes, every student has a Chinese folder with his/her 《双双中文教材》text book , a Chinese homework record & message notebook, a blue notebook and other Chinese learning materials. Please help your child remember to bring his/her Chinese folder to Chinese class on the school days except the day he/she doesn’t have Chinese. Your child only needs to bring his/her text book & homework assignment record notebook every Chinese class time. He/she doesn’t need to bring his/her  other  homework to school every day except the days that he/she needs to turn in homework.

Except Chinese folders taking home, students will also have their vocabulary dictation notebooks, other reading materials and writing in literacy which are normally kept in Chinese classroom and will be sent home at the end of school year. Here are some notes below:

About Homework for my Heritage classes:

On their homework assignment notebook: your child will have his/her homework assignment glued on this notebook regularly. Also, the notebook is a place for you and me to communicate and follow up with your child’s Chinese learning situation when necessary (You are welcome to contact me either via this notebook, or email or WeChat). Here are somethings that we need be aware:

  1. Normally homework assignment will be given to your child every Monday.
  2. There will be a dictation every Tuesday on regular bases.
  3. You may check students’ homework assignment via my blog through the year if you need.

Letter to my Kindergarten language A & G1 classes

尊敬的家长们:

        你们好!新的一年又要来临了。我是蛇口国际学校中文老师之一——张老师(Mavis Zhang)。 我今年教授Kindergarten和一年级的Language A (LA)班。下面所陈述的内容都是您需要了解的,请认真阅读。

LA班就是中文母语班。这个班的教学重点在于培养中文为母语的孩子们在中文阅读和写作上的能力,同时理解人们交谈口语中字里行间的意思,并可以自信、流利地口头回应、反驳、解释和表明自己的观点。所以在LA班中文的四大技能的学习及提高都是十分重要的。

学生们会在开学之初收到:

* 一个布制中文袋子 (Chinese Folder)

  • 课本
    • 《我的母语课》 A册/B册:只需放在家里,作为家庭阅读材料,无需带来学校
    • 《阅读力测试》:每次中文课都必须带上
  • 贴作业条的本子:每周一带来检查上周作业及布置新一周的作业
  • 词汇练习本子(蓝色米字格) (2本交替使用):每周一带来交作业
  • 写作本(黄色方格本) (2本交替使用):每周一带来交作业

每周一:交作业,布置当周作业,听写上周学习的字词

具体作业安排或有其它变化会在作业条上注明。学生的每次作业和听写都会被评估,下面附有作业评估标准。请您在家督促您的孩子有质量地完成作业。另外,我会在开学初建立一个家长微信群,重要信息和学生课上情况会在微信中传达。如有疑问或建议可以单独联系我或者发邮件给我(mzhang@sis.org.cn),我会在周一至周五上午7:30~下午5:00之间回复(上课期间除外)。另外关于课程的基本内容以及作业信息也可以在我的Blog上查找:http://share.sis.org.cn/mzhang/
