Plan Ahead

Summer is the perfect time to relax, pursue a hobby, extend your language skills, volunteer, work or do something new.  Many opportunities are available for exploring university programs and developing leadership skills through courses specially designed for international students. For more information, browse the list in the Resources section.

Learning beyond the classroom

There are many opportunities for students to gain first hand experience and valuable insight into specific academic areas or career interests.  Applications for summer programs, winter holiday programs and even short weekend courses are shared with students as they become available.  Keep up-to-date by regularly checking the Resources page of this blog, emails, and display boards on the 3rd floor of Bayside.

A highlight this November is the chance to join a specialised Young Engineer or Young Doctor program conveniently in Hong Kong.  Follow these links for details and to register:

University visits to SIS

Dear Students,

It’s a great advantage to speak to university admissions officers directly!  Make time to speak to representatives from the various universities that come to visit our campus. Often, these are the people who first read your application and meeting students can provide a great impression. They can also give you the most up-to-date information as you consider your future options.

Check the calendar for details.

Congratulations to our Class of 2018!  Offers have been rolling in for months, and the list of amazing places our students have been accepted to is still growing.  Did you know that depending on regions and application time frames, some students are still applying, others have conditional offers and some have secure places and have put down deposits?!  Whatever the case, students have worked hard to be ready for this big step to university life and we are excited to share this list of acceptances!

Attending a Liberal Arts university – 1:00 on Monday April 2

Students in Grades 11 and 10 will meet at 1:00 on Monday April 2 and use the advisory time to learn about what distinguishes a liberal arts university education.

The presenter represents Juniata College, one of the ‘Colleges That Change Lives’.  This means it has a particularly strong reputation for developing student skills and character throughout the university years.  Students can use this understanding of liberal arts to determine what the right fit is for them in shortlisting universities and programs that are right for them.

Connecting our classroom learning to the world

“International Trade, WTO and China”

On the last day of January, all IB students have the opportunity to hear a lecture/presentation titled “International Trade, WTO and China”, presented by Chinese University Hong Kong Shenzhen Associate Vice-President Prof. Seade Kuri Jesus.

In February we host Sam Yang, now of KE Foundation, who will speak to IB Business Management students about a career in Investment Banking.

How does SIS connect your learning to the world around you? Guest speakers are special opportunities that provide a direct connection between our classrooms and the outside world.    It makes your learning relevant, your questions deeper, and when reading the news you understand more.  That will take you further.  That makes your learning come alive.
