Welcome back to SIS… and welcome to Mr. D’s favorite month of the year.
Happy 30th birthday, SIS… and happy 32nd birthday, Mr. D.
Here’s what we are working on:
In reading and writing, we are continuing with our argumentative texts. In reading, the students are reading texts to find facts to support their sides of the debate. In writing, they are finishing up their persuasive essays on whether chocolate milk should be served in school.
In science, we are looking at how organisms get energy by looking at food chains. We are then looking at how disruptions affect these food chains. We are also finishing our plant experiment on seeing what factors plants need most to survive.
In math, we completed our adding and subtracting fractions unit before break. This means we are starting a new unit – multiplying and dividing fractions! Please read the newsletter below carefully to see how you can best help your child during this unit.
Hong Kong Overnight Field Trip
If you haven’t registered your child for the March 6-8 Hong Kong field trip, please do so today. Here is the information on it. Remember, the student ID number is the first part of their school email address (Example: 26ab01)
Students will be coming home soon with the packing list, student conduct contract, and medical information sheet. Please fill out the contract and medical information sheet as soon as possible.
We will be having a parent information meeting about the field trip next week. Grade 5 teachers are meeting with the Dragonfly staff on Wednesday to decide on this date. I will update you as soon as the date is confirmed.
