I really love this project. Language really does influence perspective and feeling. I always get a very different feeling from Spanish poetry than from English. Glad you liked the Tokai! It gets so difficult to motivate oneself to learn language and if anything could push me back into the classroom it would be literature and poetry. Thanks for telling me about this project. I look forward to listening to all of these pieces.
I like the use of different tones, especially when you emphasized different languages. I could really feel the sorrowfulness of losing two languages.
I think the most interesting factor was the change in the tone. By changing the tone I was able to be more focused on your poem. Also, It helped me empathize to emotions inside your poem. As I am barely bilingual, this poem gave me the chance to think about the preciousness about our other languages.

Your poem is so powerful despite its length, and it is very easy to understand your feelings after losing two languages. I really like how this poem is used to emphasize your passion for the languages you lost. Using this multi-lingual poem helped us listeners understand your emotions towards those languages. Your poem is powerful, and it made us understand your emotions; sadness and frustration. Your change is tone also had a big effect on how you wanted us to understand the poem. I really love your poem! Your word choice is exceptionally strong — they bring the audience to the mood and emotion you are targeting. I could feel your emotion in your words as if I was speaking it myself. I also love your metaphor of your multilingual experience in comparison to a love affair; this helped me depict your story in a very specific way that made me almost visualise your experience. The examples of Chinese and French in the poem also were strong features that supported your tone. Thank you for sharing this poem!
Mrs. Krouse, I love your introduction and dedication. I absolutely relate to your poem as I joke that I speak one and a half languages, and I am also in awe of our multilingual students. I especially appreciated when you used Chinese in your language. The way the words rang out as you spoke them was also reminiscent of my own taxi experiences. Your ending on “humility” clinches your overall message. What powerful word choices throughout!

Not only that but your frustration and how you lamented over the loss of your loves made me see clearer the importance of language. Your tone was precise and I believe is able to pierce every person who has ever tried to learn a language and eventually gave up.Your poem sends a strong message of how language can be beautiful and bittersweet at the same time.
