As preschool teachers, we are responsible to deliver positive messages to children about healthy food choices. By getting children involved in the process of making healthy snacks, they have great opportunities to learn new concepts and practice multiple skills needed to complete the activities. By stirring egg, milk, flour, baking soda etc. and use cookie cutters to make cookies, children learn math concepts such as volume, more or less, and different sizes of the measuring cups by making the batter. Children are also encouraged to try different food that they have not tried before, and it provides opportunities for children to practice fine and gross motors skills when mixing, spreading, and using the cutters. Children also get to see the process of how to turn many items into one item and it makes them wonder what happens during the process.
