Hi! My name is Ria Hennigar and I am excited to be your child’s first grade teacher this year!
This is my 3rd year here at SIS, and my 16th year as an educator. I have a Masters Degree in Education from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Rutgers University.
I have grown up as a Third Culture Kid living around the world, including Indonesia, Honduras, Brazil, Bangladesh, and the USA. I love the sense of community that forms while living abroad and continued that lifestyle as an educator. Teaching has taken my family and I from Mexico to Japan, then Nepal, and now China. My husband, Peter is a middle school science teacher at SIS Bayside campus. We have two energetic and loving boys, Felix and Theo.
I love the curiosity, excitement, and tremendous growth at this age, I strive to harness that energy to promote a love of learning. I believe that each child can make a big difference in their world and provide them with the tools and opportunities to do so. First grade is an exciting year of growth and learning!
SIS is about family and community; we are here for your child and you. We want to share your joys and concerns. Please come and talk to us about matters great and small. Together we can make this an enriching and engaging year for your child!
