P.E. Friday! This week in Physical Education students worked on jumping and tagging games. Students practiced running and jumping into the long jump pit & played sharks and fish on the sports field.
Happy Book Week! This week the focus across SIS was books. Monday the Super Hero Kids had a Pajama Dance Party with their friends from PreK2. Tuesday we dropped everything and read at different times in the day. Wednesday we read stories with our reading buddies & changed teachers for story time. And, Friday our students will explore the magical world of Eric Carle with books coming alive.
This week the Super Hero Kids are adding on one more task in the morning; signing in. Every school day they have the duty of putting their jacket, snacks, water, and other belongings away. Now, after that is finished they are given the responsibility of signing themselves in. This is wonderful practice for fine-motor skills, letter recognition, as well as, reading each others names. Friends are seeking help and working together to make sure everyone is ready for the day.
Health and fitness are two important topics. Everyday we try to practice and instill healthy behaviors. These behaviors and practices will give us a fit heart. This week for life skills we inquired about our heart beat. We found that heart rate changes from exercise. And, not everything has a heart beat.
The Super Hero Kids are diving into technology in the classroom. We are beginning to use iPads for journals and capturing our learning. Each week we are learning one new tool which we will practice independently and with helpful friends. By integrating technology in the classroom we are preparing our young learners for the future and the years to come at SIS.
Super Hero Kids are preparing for Chinese New Year. Together we are reading stories, making crafts, and writing about the up coming holiday. The Chinese New Year Stories we shared so far include; Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas, Red Is a Dragon, and Lanterns and Firecrackers. After reading these stories we were able to make festive crafts seen in the books. We made lanterns, year of the dog pictures, & good luck charms with a little help from our 3rd grade friends.
The Super Hero Kids are having oral presentations. As a class we are talking about things we did over winter holiday. Some specific questions we worked on were; where did you go? what did you do? who is that?. Talking in-front of a group and peers is a crucial skill. Learning and developing this at an earlier age will help better prepare our young students for their future endeavors. As a group we were able to encourage, support, and ask tons interesting questions about each other’s holiday adventures.
Physical Education (P.E.) is essential for developing a healthy lifestyle. The inclusion of regular vigorous physical activity helps students maintain fitness, develop muscular strength and improve cardiovascular health. We hope to improve physical competence, cognitive understanding, and promote positive attitudes about physical activity. This week we focused on hand-eye coordination, and tagging games. We split up into two groups and played “Bulldozers & Builders” and “Duck Duck Goose.” Both the Super Hero Kids and the Brave Bears worked and learned wonderfully together!!!
The winter break is over and school time is back. Despite all the cold and rainy weather the Super Hero Kids are getting back into their routines. During this week we have focused on reviewing daily duties, talking about everyones holiday adventures, and staying warm and dry in the classroom. In the coming weeks we will begin diving into an exploring theme.
