# Halloween Math Fun!

On Halloween day we went around the SIS campus on a scavenger hunt. We went on a search for Spooky decorations around Jing Shan Villas. Every time we found a spooky thing, we checked our list to see if it was on there. If we found something that was on our list we put an “X” or a check mark. The children had a lot of fun..they had no idea that they were working on their mathematical data handling skills.

# Travel Journals

The children took turns reading their travel journals to their classmates. They enjoyed sharing their experiences with their friends. For the children listening, it was a good experience to listen to others’ stories. We practiced asking questions and staying on topic with the reader.

# We Are The Dancing Snails!

Over the course of a week, we took the time to choose our class name. We first listed all the animals that we knew, then we began voting on which animal mascot we preferred. We visited the list daily and voted each time to make the list shorter. When we finally got down to 2 animals (frog and Snail), we then drew the animal that we preferred.

When we had the final vote for snails, we then listed the kind of snails that we liked. Each idea that the children suggested, we did research on. As a class, we looked at google images of each idea i.e. Bubble Snails, Fire Snails, Flower Snails..

Working together as a class to choose our name, gave the children ownership. All children were a part of the discussions and decisions. Activities like these set the feeling that we are a community, a team where every one has the opportunity and responsibility to contribute. Little did the children know that the were busy learning new vocabulary, math skills and growing as communicators by sharing their ideas.

# Math Centers

In Pre K2, our math work is about hands on exploring at the concept level. Several times a week we have Math Centers after lunch-recess. During our Math Centers we are counting, matching, sorting, comparing, measuring and drawing. We set up activities that are both teacher guided and open exploration.

# Exercise

During our Wellbeing strand we have talked about taking care of our bodies. We have covered topics like brushing our teeth, washing our hands, using tissues to clear our noses, eating healthy foods and getting plenty of exercise.

The Laser Bugs have been enjoying the challenge of coping the Yoga poses on our yoga position cards. We have learned that Yoga is a slow and quiet kind of exercise, where we hold different poses and do not move. We talked about how this kind of exercise makes us strong (but is different than) just like the fun and fast exercise video featured below.
