This morning, we turned off the lights, AC and unplugged the projector to see what it would be like without electricity. Because it was raining, it was quite dark in our classroom. We discussed many things that need electricity-toasters, computers, ovens, some toys, some cars, and TV. After having this discussion in the dark, we turned the lights back on. It seemed very bright. I challenged the children to find a time with their family to turn off or unplug all things that use electricity to see what life was like in Benjamin Franklin’s time (we watched a video about Benjamin Franklin and his electricity experiment with a kite). Tomorrow we might have time to watch a video on Thomas Edison, the man who invented the lightbulb.
