Welcome to the new SIS 2017-18 school year! As you know, SIS is growing and changing to best meet the needs of all our diverse students! As such, we have added a new Early Primary Counseling position to provide dedicated counseling services and case management to our youngest students and their caregivers. Early Primary Counseling is located in Mountainside, on the second floor of the Library building, next to the staff room.
As the Early Primary Counselor, I can help students overcome social or emotional obstacles that may get in the the way of achieving their academic potential. At SIS, we care about the holistic development of students, which includes developing healthy, respectful relationships, positive habits, and effective coping strategies. Students are welcome to visit my office during breaks or lunch time, or can make an appointment with me. Teachers and parents can also refer students, and I am happy to consult about how your students are developing, coping, transitioning etc.
Counseling services at school include brief individual counseling, group counseling, family counseling, consultation, classroom guidance lessons, responsive services, and referrals. Individual and group counseling is voluntary. It is important to note that meeting with the counselor is a confidential process unless the student is in danger of hurting others or themselves. Confidentiality ensures that trust can be established, and the needs of students can more fully be met.
Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or via the Early Primary Office if you would like to make a time to meet, have any questions, or if I can be of support in any way. I look forward to working with you all this year!
