This Yangshuo adventure starts with an early 7am wake up call, and a hearty breakfast. Then off to the town of Fuli where students learned all about fan making. Using fans for cooling began over 2000 years ago and fan making holds a  long tradition in Chinese culture. Our students got to hear the history and got to create their own painted fans. They learned to be balanced in their painting and to communicate through their artwork.  Learning about the culture in which we live in one of the great things our SIS students are experiencing.

“Today, there are over 500 kinds of fans in China, of which the sandalwood fan from Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, the damask silk fan from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, the fire-painting fan from Guangdong Province and the bamboo thread fan are known as the four most famous fans of China.” http://www.china.org.cn/english/2001/Jun/14910.htm
