My name is Jennie Soh, and I am an 8th grade student of the Shekou International School (SIS). In total, I’ve been to 5 or 6 international schools. Malaysia is my family’s country of origin, however, I do not possess the ability to skilfully speak Malay. Luckily, I can still say that I am able to communicate in English and (some) Mandarin.
Books, movies, TV shows, Art, Music and games have always been a big part of my life. Anything having to do with entertainment will instantly attract my attention, as long as I can get my hands on it. Much of my free time is spent reading or watching things, online or offline, simply for fun. Perhaps I may never use most of the information I learn, but there is always a factor of ‘why not?’, isn’t there? The genre of Fantasy has always left me in awe, whether it’s movies about a park for dinosaurs, a book about a man stranded on Mars or a tale about a wonderful princess named Buttercup. It has always given me a sense of what the world might have been like, a certain feeling of je ne sais quoi (I do not know if that’s used correctly). However, there’s another side of me that likes learning about universe. Science has always been interesting, and many units are truly fascinating. It’s crazy to think that there is still so much out there that we don’t know about.
I’ll end it off with a quote. “Science is a beautiful gift to humanity; we should not distort it.” -A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
