Kimberly Sheppard is thrilled to be the music teacher at Shekou International School. This will be her tenth year teaching elementary music, and her second year at SIS. She and her husband David couldn’t be happier to be a part of the SIS family, and to call Shekou home. After growing up in New York, she went to the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, Connecticut, where she earned her Bachelors in Music Education. She began teaching K-6 elementary music immediately out of college, while earning her Masters in Music Education from Boston University. Previous teaching assignments include elementary music, five choirs and a yearly fifth and sixth grade musical. Her philosophy of music education includes a hybrid blend of Orff and Kodály pedagogies. She believes in play-based, performance-based and project-based learning, with a special focus on musical literacy. Outside of the classroom, she and Mr. Sheppard can be found traveling, hiking and enjoying outdoor adventures.
