Fourth graders start the year with excitement and technology as a focus. This is the year they receive their school iPads. This, combined with our comparison of lines in nature and geometric lines gave the inspiration for our “Circuitry-Circuitrees” (mediums:Watercolor, ink, colored pencil and oil pastels). Additionally there is a curricular connection as the fourth graders are going to be studying magnetism and electricity in science at the end of the month.
Once completed the students did a “gallery walk” where they commented on eachother’s use of specific lines, choice of watercolor washes and overall symmetry or opposition of the two sides of the design. See Mrs. Kim’s Blog, Mr. Sheppard’s Blog or Mr. Banner’s Blog to see more student reflections on the work they did in the art room. Example: below
