This past weekend, the SIS boys’ and girls’ middle school soccer teams traveled to Guangzhou to take part in the three day Middle School SDRC Soccer Tournament. Competing with teams from the American International School of Guangzhou (AISG), the Australian International School of Hong Kong (AISHK), Utalhoy International School of Guangzhou (UISG), and QSI (Shekou), the hard work, dedication and team building that these twenty-four student athletes have worked to improve over the past few months was truly evident.
After a long two days of competition, the SIS boys’ team placed third as they headed into the semi-finals on Saturday morning. They fell just short in the qualifying match, and ultimately placed fourth overall. The boys agree with their teammate Jackson that, “We didn’t come away with as much as we deserved, but we played as a team and came together. And that’s what counts.” The girls went into Saturday’s games undefeated and dominated the semi-final and final games to take first place overall. “The reason we got first place was because we contributed as a team and cooperated. I am very proud of SIS,” says Michelle.
A huge congratulations to all of the SIS student athletes who played in the SDRC Soccer Tournament this past weekend. A special congratulations to Erin Hwang, Amanda Wisbeck, Jackson Fletcher, and Arthur Stamer who represented SIS in the SDRC All Tournament Team. A very big thank you from our teams to SIS teachers, families, and friends for all of your support and encouragement on and off the field.
